NEW DWELLING ACTIVATION FEE

What is NDA?

New Development/Dwelling Fee is a government policy ( “New Developments Charge” and came into effect on 2nd April 2016.) that passes down the cost of deploying FTTP network infrastructure to new premises or dwellings to the end-users. The same thing happens when you connect electricity or water for the first time but it’s the internet this time. This means that every household will have to pay a $300 (including GST) connection fee when they connect to the internet for the first time. This is a once-off connection fee so the succeeding end-users will no longer have to pay for the New Dwelling Fee if they wish to use the service.

Why do I have to pay the NDA?

  • It’s a Government mandatory fee as stipulated in  “New Developments Charge” and came into effect on 2nd April 2016. (the second line under New Property Buyers and Occupants states that “If there is no telecommunications infrastructure, you may face significant inconvenience, delays and extra costs to have it installed.”) Since this is a government mandate fee then this is non-disputable.

Normally, with another network provider, your internet service will only be activated after paying the New Dwelling Fee but that’s not the case with Supa Networks. We give you a 30-day free subscription to connect to the internet before collecting the New Dwelling Fee. Please pay your New Dwelling fee on time to avoid service interruption.

Who pays for the NDA?

  • The owner of the dwelling is responsible for the new dwelling activation fee. If you are a tenant, I suggest that you reach out to your landlord to make a payment arrangement. Your landlord may have paid the NDA during the settlement or if not then you can ask for a reimbursement.

  • If your landlord (or real estate agent) is unwilling to reimburse you for this one-off charge, we recommend you contact and seek advice from your State or Territory consumer protection agency as depending on the law in your State or Territory, your landlord may be required to reimburse you.
